WOLFROTE (JAMES), printer in London, is mentioned in 1550 in the register of the Dutch Church as a type setter in the employment of Richard Grafton { GRAFTON, Richard ( - 1573) ‹ LBT 02592 › } [R. of A., I, 207] and he is no doubt one of the two Jacobs mentioned in a mutilated portion of the Subsidy Roll of 1549 as assistants to Grafton and as being taxed eight pence. In 1571 he is entered in the Returns under Aldersgate Ward "James Wolforte booke printer, borne in Clevelande, who hath dwelt in London synce the first yeare of K. Edwarde the sixte, and Katheryne { WOLFROTE, Katheryne ‹ LBT 03216 › } his wyfe, borne in the countrye of Horne, hath byn here about xiiij yeares." [R. of A., II, 45.] In 1582-83 he was living in Cripplegate Ward. [R. of A., II, 268.]
