TYAS or TIAS (THOMAS), stationer in London, 1588-9I. Son of Thomas Tyas of Heckleton, co. York, yeoman. Apprentice to Christopher Barker < BARKER, Christopher (1529 - 1599) ‹ LBT 06871 › }, stationer of London, for eight years from Christmas, 1580. He appears to have married Joane { TYAS, Joane (mar. TYAS) ‹ LBT 03066 › }, the widow of Henry Johnson { JOHNSON, Henry ( - 1588) ‹ LBT 30697 › }, stationer. His will was proved in the Commissary of London on April 14th, 1591. In it he mentions his two sons, Richard Johnson, alias Tias, and Charles Tias. The latter was probably the bookseller on London Bridge, 1656-64.: {Cf. - Charles Tyus { TYUS, Charles ‹ LBT 30630 › } and Sarah Tyus { TYUS, Sarah ‹ LBT 30631 › } Plomer, Dictionary.
