TAPP (JOHN), bookseller in London, 1600-31; (1) On Tower Hill, near the Bulwark Gate; (2) Saint Magnus Corner, London Bridge. Originally a member of the Drapers' Company, John Tapp was transferred to the Company of Stationers on June 3rd, 1600 [Arber, ii. 725]. His first book entry in the Registers occurs on October 2nd, 1600 [Arber, iii. 173]. After carrying on business for some years on Tower Hill, he moved into Hugh Astley's { ASTLEY, Hugh ( - 1608) ‹ LBT 08397 › } premises at Saint Magnus Corner. He dealt largely in nautical books. His last book entry is found on March 17th, 1623/4 [Arber, iv. 114]. John Tapp died before August 1st, 1631, when his widow Eliz. Tapp { TAPP, Elizabeth ‹ LBT 06730 › }transferred his copyrights to Joseph Hurlock { HURLOCK, Joseph ( - 1633) ‹ LBT 11100 › } [Arber, iv. 258].
