SMITH (TOBY), bookseller in London, 1580-3; The Crane in St. Paul's Churchyard. Originally apprenticed to Lucas Harrison { HARRYSON, Lucas ( - 1577) ‹ LBT 07657 › }, at whose death he was transferred to Richard Sergier { SERGER, Richard ‹ LBT 07669 › } [Arber, ii. 88]. He was admitted to the freedom of the Company on March 26th, 1580 [Arber, ii. 682]. He made his first book entry on June 9th following [Arber, ii. 371], and his last on January 18th, 1582/3 [Arber, ii. 417].
