READ (RICHARD), printer in London, 1601-3; Fleet Lane. Apprentice to Richard Jugge { JUGGE, Richard ( - 1577) ‹ LBT 07912 › }, by whom he was presented for his freedom on January 18th, 1579/80 [Arber, ii. 681]. In 1601 he married Frances { SIMPSON, Frances (mar. READE) ‹ LBT 03175 › } the widow of Gabriel Simson { SIMPSON, Gabriel ( - 1600) ‹ LBT 07908 › }, and so became a master printer [Arber, v. 201]. He had a son Richard who took up his freedom July 6th, 1619 [Arber, iii. 685] {not so, for this freedom see - READE, Richard ‹ LBT 08952 ›, who was the son of Henry Reade, a linendraper of Whitchurch, Shropshire}.
