nglishman, taxed as an alien
Duff, E.G. (1905), p.123
POLLARD (JOHN), bookbinder in London, is mentioned with some others in January, 1527, as being granted pardon. [Letters and papers of Henry VIII, vol. iv, pt. ii, p. 1270.] He was not an Englishman as he is taxed as an alien. He lived in Shoe Lane next to Nowell Havy { HAVY, Nowell ‹ LBT 28416 › }, another binder. In 1541 both paid a tax of four pence and again in 1544, while in 1549 they were each valued at five pounds and taxed five shillings. [R. of A., I, 56, 94, 181.]
MLT Note: Duff, E.G. (1905) - not an Englishman as he is taxed as an alien.
