LACY (ALEXANDER), printer in London, was made free of the Stationers' Company April 31st, 1556. In 1559-60 he took the shilling to serve the Queen but this does not seem to have disturbed his business for we find him taking out licenses for printing in the following year and these continue without a break until 1571. Most of his work consisted of ballads, the majority of which have now perished, and the few books which he printed are rare. Herbert mentions only two and to these may be added the unique Dives Pragmaticus of 1563. [J.R.L.] Lacy does not seem to have printed or published after 1571, but he lived to a considerably later period, for in October, 1581, he presented his son John Lacy { LACY, John ‹ LBT 07665 › } who took his freedom "per patronagium."
