JACKSON (RALPH), bookseller in London, 1588-1601; The White Swan in St. Paul's Churchyard. Son of Thomas Jackson of the city of Coventry, draper. Apprentice to Garret D'Ewes { DEWES, Garrad ( - 1591) ‹ LBT 07706 › } for ten years from 1580 [Arber, ii. 100]. Admitted to the freedom of the Company on October 17th, 1588 [Arber, ii. 703]. Jackson's publications were almost entirely theological, and he shared some of them with Robert Dexter { DEXTER, Robert ( - 1603) ‹ LBT 07158 › } and William Young { YONGE, William ‹ LBT 08837 › }. He was one of the witnesses to the will of William Norton { NORTON, William (1527 - 1593) ‹ LBT 08157 › }. Ralph Jackson died some time in 1601; by his will, which was proved on August 25th, 1601, he left his property between his widow Martha { JACKSON, Martha (mar. STOCKLEY) ‹ LBT 03121 › } and his children Nathaniel and Joane [P.C.C., 25, Woodhall]. On April 27th, 1602, his copyrights were transferred to Cuthbert Burby { BURBY, Cuthbert ( - 1607) ‹ LBT 08823 › } [Arber, iii. 205].
