HACKET (THOMAS), printer in London, was an original member of the Stationers' Company though not entered in the list in the Charter of 1557. In 1560 when his first dated book was issued his shop was "in Cannynge strete over agaynste the three Cranes." In 1562 he had moved to Lombard Street while in 1568 he was in St. Paul's Churchyard at the sign of the Key. In 1574 his shop was "the Greene Dragon in the Royall Exchange" while his final move (by 1584) was to "Lumberd streete under the signe of the Pope's head." In 1569 he came on the Livery of the Stationers' Company and in 1576 acted as Renter. In June, 1582, his son Ambrose { HACKET, Ambrose ‹ LBT 07583 › } became a freeman by patrimony. Thomas Hacket seems to have been a prolific printer and entered a very large number of copies in the Registers. He is last mentioned in 1589 and his last dated book was issued in 1590.
