| Burial | 1844 Nunhead Cemetery P.H.S. Newsletter, no.37 (Mar 1977) - --- lies buried in the family tomb at Nunhead Cemetery in South London. This cemetery was planned by Bunstone Bunning and opened in 1840; many elaborate Victorian monuments were erected. It was finally closed in 1969, and became a ghoulish wilderness. Much destruction has taken place. The Figgins family vault lies in the oldest part of the cemtery, on the western side, near the highest part and at the junction of two paths. It is (1976) reaonably intact. Figgins died 29 February 1844 aged 77; also interred are his wife Elizabeth (1866); a son, Vincent (died at Nice 1860); a second son James, MP, JP and alderman (1884); and a granddaughter and daughter (1850, 1858). |
