DOWSYE (ROBERT), bookseller in London, 1566-97. Apprentice to Alexander Lacye { LACYE, Alexander ‹ LBT 07958 › } for seven years from 1559 [Arber, I. 145], but was transferred to Thomas Marsh { MARSH, Thomas ( - 1589) ‹ LBT 08053 › } before July 22nd, 1563. He took up his freedom in the Company of Stationers on Angust 15th, 1566. On October 31st, 1597, he entered a ballad on the visit of the Queen to Parliament in the preceding week [Arher, iii. 94].
