COLMAN (NICHOLAS), bookseller at Norwich, 1586; St. Andrews Churchyard. Son of Henry Colman of Harrington in the co. of Northampton. Apprentice to Arthur Pepwell { PEPWELL, Arthur ( - 1569) ‹ LBT 08225 › } for eight years from March 25th, 1565 [Arber, i. 258]; afterwards set over to Augustin Laughton { LAWTON, Austen ‹ LBT 07966 › }. Made free on July 7th, 1579 [Arber, ii. 680]. On December 13th, 1586, he entered a ballad entitled The lamentation of Beccles a market towne in Suffolk on Saint Andrew's Day last past being burnt with fire to the number of lxxx houses and losse of xx m li [i.e., £20,000] [Arber, ii. 461]. It was printed for him in the same year by R. Robinson { ROBINSON, Robert ( - 1597) ‹ LBT 08395 › } [Hazlitt, 1. 405-6].
