APPLAY, or APPLE (RICHARD), stationer in London, was an original member of the Stationers' Company, though not entered in the charter, having been made free on April 27th, 1557. [Arber I,37.] He is mentioned several times in the Registers as taking apprentices and paying fines, and once in 1563 had a license to print a ballad. He died before 1566, when mention is made of his widow.
