Introduction

John Ward was a bookbinder and member of the Stationers' Company in London. Bound as an apprentice to Henry Conway in 1585, he was freed from servitude in 1593 and subsequently took on five apprentices in the binding trade between 1594 and 1612. His son Robert Warde followed him into the book trade, gaining his patrimony in 1622.
