Introduction

Andrew MacFarlane was a bookbinder and member of the Stationers' Company in London during the early nineteenth century. He was freed by redemption in February 1812 and subsequently took on seven apprentices in the binding trade between 1812 and 1827. MacFarlane was based at Poppin's Court, Fleet Street from 1812 to 1817, and later at Old Bailey from 1824 to 1827. Two of his apprentices were his own sons, George and John Young MacFarlane, who both became bookbinders themselves.
