Introduction
Eleazer Edgar was a bookseller active in London during the early 17th century, primarily located in St Paul's Churchyard where he operated shops at the signs of the Windmill and Jonas. He was apprenticed to Ralph Jackson from 1589 and gained his freedom in the Stationers' Company in 1597, subsequently taking on his own apprentices. Edgar dealt chiefly in theological literature and published works including Joseph Hall's Characters of Vertues and Vices (1608), before assigning his copyrights in 1613.
