Introduction
Henry Thomas was a bookseller and member of the Stationers' Company active in London during the late 16th and early 17th centuries. He was bound to Thomas Hodgkinson in 1590 and freed from his servitude in 1597, subsequently establishing himself at locations including The White Bear at St. Sepulchre's Door and Gray's Inn Gate between 1598 and 1607. Thomas took on apprentices in the book trade and was involved in publishing, including George Wilson's Commendation of Cockes and Cock-Fighting in 1607.

TOMES (HENRY), bookseller in London, 1598-1607; (1) The White Bear at St. Sepulchre's door; (2) Gray's Inn Gate. This stationer was in all probability father or brother of Richard Tommes { TOMBES, Richard ( - 1631) ‹ LBT 08514 › }, or Tomes, who gave his address as in St. Faith's parish. Henry Tomes is found taking an apprentice in Fehruary, 1597/8, but he did not make any entry in the Registers until June 4th, 1604 [Arber, iii. 265]. His name does not occur in the Registers after November 12th in that year, but in 1607 he published George Wilson's Commendation of Cockes and Cock-Fighting [Hazlitt, H. 659].
