BALDWYN (WILLIAM), printer in London, was educated at Oxford and took a degree in 1532. Coming later to London, he became an assistant to Edward Whitchurch { WHITCHURCH, Edward ( - 1562) ‹ LBT 02612 › }, correcting for the press and doing original work. In 1549 he himself printed with Whitchurch's type The Canticles or Balades of Salomon, of which he was the versifier. During the reigns of Edward and Mary he superintended the production of plays at Court. Later he became a minister and schoolmaster. At the time of the incorporation of the Stationers' Company he was entered in the original list, but his name is never found in the Registers. The date of his death is unknown. [D.N.B.]
