HILL (WILLIAM), printer in London, lived at the sign of the Green Hill in St. Paul's Churchyard. He apparently printed only during the years 1548 and 1549 when he produced about sixteen books, some in partnership with W. Seres { SERES, William ( - 1580) ‹ LBT 08396 › } others with T. Raynalde { RAYNALD, Thomas ‹ LBT 00138 › } . In the list of stationers in the charter of 1557 he was fortieth. He is entered several times in the Registers as taking apprentices, and once is fined for binding Primers in parchment, so that he appears to have been in business as a bookbinder. He was still alive in 1586 when his son William { HILL, William ‹ LBT 07742 › } was admitted a freeman "per patronagium." In the Prerogative Court of Canterbury is the will dated 1564 [another grant September l0th, 1580] of "William Hyll, stacioner, Sainte Gregories, City of London." [25, Stevenson.]
