Introduction

Luke Norton was a printer and member of the Stationers' Company in London. He was apprenticed to the printer George Elde on 3 December 1604 and freed from his servitude on 2 March 1612. Norton worked as a journeyman printer and was documented receiving compensation in 1624 for sudden dismissal from his position. He continued to receive loans from the William Norton bequest into the 1640s, indicating his professional activity extended into that decade.

NORTON (LUKE), printer in London, 1642-5. There were two stationers of this name, one of whom took up his freedom March 2nd, 1612 { NORTON, Luke ‹ LBT 07414 › }, and the other June 1st, 1635 { NORTON, Luke ‹ LBT 10529 › }. [Arber, iii. 683, 687.] This was probably the later man, who was in partnership with John Field, { FIELD, John ( - 1668) ‹ LBT 09976 › }.
