== Introduction ==
<div style="width:90ch;">
John Edgar was a bookbinder and member of both the Drapers' Company and Stationers' Company in London. He was bound as an apprentice to Eleazar Edgar in 1598 and achieved his freedom through servitude in 1606. Edgar took on at least one apprentice in the book trade and maintained active involvement in the Stationers' Company, receiving loans from the William Norton bequest in 1621 and 1625.
