Introduction

Simon Farwell was a bookbinder in London and member of the Stationers' Company. Bound as an apprentice to Thomas Haviland in 1601, he gained his freedom through servitude in 1608. Farwell took on six apprentices in the binding trade between 1610 and 1634, establishing himself as an established master craftsman in the London book trade.
