Introduction
Humffray Lewes was a member of the Stationers' Company in London. He was bound as an apprentice to John Greffeth on 24 June 1571 and gained his freedom through servitude on 8 October 1579, establishing himself as a practitioner in the London book trade during the late sixteenth century.
