== Introduction ==
<div style="width:90ch;">
Lawrence Gardener was a stationer and member of the Stationers' Company in London. He was bound to master Henry Conway on 25 December 1575 and gained his freedom on 25 June 1578. Gardener took on at least five apprentices between 1581 and 1589, establishing himself as an active member of the London book trade during this period, though no evidence of book publishing or his place of business has been found.
