In a list of those freemen not of the Stationers' Company who were hindered by privileges occurs the name of James Rowbothame [Arber, i. 111]. He was probably a draper or haberdasher. During the year 1563/4 he was fined 2s. 6d. for binding two hundred primers "in skabertes" against the rules of the Company [Arber, i. 239]. He sold almanacks, ballads, general literature and music.
